THIS IS BORING.
Hey everyone. If you are into making films and want to burn dvds but often run into problems (for macs anyway), read the hell on. If not don’t bother cos it’s total yawnsville.
I use Final Cut Express not Pro. I highly recommend it if your want to fork out a bit of cash for editing software without going crazy. It’s basically the same as Pro (without all the fancy extra applications) at a fraction of the price. Anyway…
If you’ve ever made your own movie and wanted to burn it on dvd, no doubt like me you’ve almost torn your fucking face off trying to figure the best way to do it. I swore blind that if I figured this out I would do my bit and pass on the information to anyone that gives a shit. So listen. My particular quibble is that when I’ve made a film in 16:9 standard definition, I always run into massive problems exporting it from Final Cut to use in iDVD. When previewing my dvd project that son of a bitch will always pop to 4:3 even when my project is set to 16:9. This is because, and I quote apple here, “Final Cut Express does not include the widescreen aspect ratio information that iDVD looks for.” Well thank you Final Cut Express! Not worry. Go here and this article will save your god damn life.
Another possible piece of gold I picked up on my search for truth is that if your film is in 4:3 you can cut all the bullshit by doing this; Go file>export>QuickTime Movie… then UNCHECK the “Make Movie Self-Contained” box to make a reference movie, then drag that lil sukka into iDVD and when you burn it, it should do everything for you. HOWEVER I have not actually burned a dvd in this manner so chances are it won’t work, but there we are. The article above definitely worked for me.
I hope this was of some help. If you’re sitting there going “Yeah well everyone knows that” you’re a smug prick. No everyone does not know this. Why don’t you go tell a few people, yeah?
